Professor Alex Kostogriz
Role and Profile
Alex Kostogriz has a longstanding research interest in exploring the professional practice of English language teachers. His work emphasises the importance of recognizing diversity in schools. Teachers participating in various projects, including the DP Transcultural literacy, have come to perceive differences in multicultural classrooms as an important means for rich teaching and learning. His scholarship demonstrates that when difference is not suppressed, then meaning negotiation becomes central to how teachers perceive their effectiveness in literacy education.
Alex has made a significant contribution to research into professional learning. He has been involved in several projects and co-edited a book that deals with various aspect of teacher education. More recently, Alex has focused his research on the exploration of the everyday of teachers’ work. This work is significant for the further development of a participant-centred method of inquiry that recognises the integrity of everyday life and hence does not reduce the ‘lived’ character of teacher experience.
