Associate Professor Bernadette Walker-Gibbs
Role and Profile
Bernadette Walker-Gibbs is an Associate Professor in the School of Education at Deakin University and has worked in the higher education sector for over 15 years. Most recently she have been engaged in two large scale, longitudinal, mixed methods research in examining the ‘effectiveness of teacher education in preparing graduates for a diversity of contexts”. Bernadette also focuses her research on pre-service teachers in rural settings as well as creating narratives around ‘country kids’ and pre-service teachers and their journey to university and experiences once they get there. Since her employment at Deakin in 2008, Bernadette has been part of various research tenders (internal and external) that has attracted close to $2 000 000 in total. Bernadette (with Professor Ann Schulte, California State University, Chico) recently signed a book contract with Springer for an edited book to be completed December 2014 on Self Study in Rural Teacher Education.
